Photographing nature is a great way to observe and learn about biological systems in their natural context. Photographs also represent documentary data relevant to the state of our ecosystems, which face many challenges from human activities.
I particularly enjoy experimenting with ways to capture photographs and videos that are visually compelling while also revealing basic scientific insight that might otherwise be unseen by the human eye.
I also enjoy using my photographs and videos in my classroom teaching and to help raise public awareness of the importance of maintaining biodiversity where one lives, which in my case is Bloomington, Indiana.
